How do Rainwater Harvesters work?
Rainwater harvesters work by draining all the rain which falls on your roof to an underground rainwater harvesting tank where it is filtered, stored and the rainwater recycled for household use. Rainwater harvesters operate 'on-demand', when you turn on the tap or flush the toilet, just the same as your mains supply.
The supply never runs out because when the water level in the rainwater harvesting system becomes low during a period of drought, the supply switches to mains water automatically. Similarly, during periods of heavy rainfall, the rainwater harvester never overflows because it has a high level outlet into the main drains or soakaway.

Our rainwater harvesters are very robust tanks and can be installed under driveways to save space (car traffic only)
Have you ever wondered why, in a Country which receives so much rain, water shortages are often headline news?
We simply don't have enough reservoirs to supply the ever increasing
demand for water. But why then, do we use drinking water for flushing toilets and laundry purposes? Other Countries don't and we don't have to either!. Recycling rainwater via rainwater harvesters for flushing toilets, washing clothes and watering the garden significantly reduces the demand on our reservoirs, lowers your own costs and goes a long way to protecting the environment. Precious drinking water reservoirs can be safe-guarded and flooding reduced by installing a rainwater harvester system.
Flooding is a result of too much rain entering the drains and rivers too fast. Undeveloped land can store the water in the soil for gradual release into the streams and rivers, but developed land, where the rain falls on concrete, roofs and tarmac, flushes straight into the drains, causing immediate river surges. Every square mile of developed land causes 16 million gallons of rainwater to directly enter the rivers on a rainy day! The tremendous increase in land development over the last 20 years has been directly responsible for the current flood risk situation. Flooding will be reduced by the use of rainwater harvesters as the rain is saved for recycling rather than being flushed straight into the drains. Lowering of ground-water levels can also be avoided during dry periods by installing rainwater harvesters.
Soft rainwater contains no calcium deposits; the cause of hard water, so, in your own home, the installation of a rainwater harvester ensures that:-

AND WE USE EXPENSIVE DRINKING WATER! Rain saving, Rainwater harvesters, storage and rainwater recycling is due to become an important part of future development under the new 'SUDS', Sustainable Drainage Systems legislation. Saving rainwater is vital if we are to create sustainable houses.
How much rainwater do you want to save?
All you have to do is decide just how much mains water you want to replace with free rainwater?
This also depends on the size of your roof. See Sizing your Harvester
You can use a rainwater harvester just for Garden, washing cars, watering livestock and outside tap use, or you can use free rainwater for flushing toilets and laundry as well.
Below is a chart which shows you how much water you will save with a rainwater harvester.

The above figure of 33% for the WC is based on the UK average of 9 litres per flush.
Government statistics estimate that on average the UK toilet uses 9 litres per flush, with many of the older, less efficient toilets using as much as 13 litres per flush. The outcome of this diabolical waste of water by inefficient toilets is that UK toilets needlessly flush away 1.2 billion litres of water a day.
You don't have to use that much water, nor do you have to go to the expense of fitting a new Dual Flush toilet!
The Interflush is a kit which fits on top of your WC siphon and connects to the front
mounted flush handle.
The toilet then only flushes when the handle is held down, releasing the handle stops the flush (when pan is clear). Only uses exactly what water is needed. Any less and the toilet would need flushing again. That is why nothing can flush a toilet with less water. You can then either buy a smaller rainwater harvester, or get more flushes from the larger tank.Contact us for details.
